Geology of the Southern Appalachian Mountains
Wednesday, June 12 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
‘Geology of the Southern Appalachian Mountains,’ presented by Dr. Jeffrey Wilcox, Associate Professor in the Environmental Studies Department at UNCA, will provide an introduction to the geology of our region as well as the French Broad River.
Dr. Wilcox is a licensed geologist and teaches courses in hydrogeology, water chemistry, geology, and environmental science. His research incorporates field studies, laboratory experiments, and analyses to better understand local hydrologic issues. Recent projects have included wetland hydrology in the newly-established Mountain Bogs National Wildlife Refuge.
Like all of our events at MCC this series is offered at no charge, though donations will be accepted for the speakers.
Special thanks to Nancy Dagley, the creator of this ongoing series of educational talks exploring the natural and cultural history of the southern Appalachian Mountains. Thanks also to all who attended our first event, ‘An Introduction to Lichens,’ presented by Mars Hill University Biology Instructor Laura Boggess!
Join us in the workshop at the Marshall Container Co.on Wednesday, May 15 at 6pm.
